NFPA 1550: Standard for Emergency Responder Health and Safety has a chapter on Traffic Incident Management. This chapter sets requirements for response to emergency operations at traffic incidents. Specific requirements cover the need for SOPs, apparatus placement (including as a blocking device), warning devices, high visibility apparel, and traffic control training.
